Holman Wang of Star Wars Epic Yarns visited our school today. He creates his books, called Cozy Classics, with his twin brother Jack. Holman illustrates his books by felting the characters and putting the characters in natural settings before he photographs them. He has 15 books so far and just finished The Wizard of Oz.

Holman and his brother Jack loved Star Wars from an early age.

Today, in honour of National Library Day, we had a story read to us by School Trustee Mr. Ken Denike. Mr. Denike also spoke about his role as a community helper- this was wonderful as we are learning about our community during Social Studies.
My very favourite author/illustrator is Barbara Reid! She creates wonderful books using plasticine for all of the pictures. Our Friday Art class was spent trying to re-create her pictures using modeling clay. First I went to our school library to borrow all the Barbara Reid books I could. Luckily we have quite a number. Next, as a class, we visited Barbara Reid’s website (www.barbarareid.ca) and watched her tutorials on how to start creating pictures using plasticine. Then we looked through the books to choose a picture we would like to try re-creating.
My family’s favourite public library book of the week is all about animal behinds and the different (and funny) names for behinds: derriere, wazoo, back half, patootie, tushy etc.
As you read the story you quickly realize that all the animals are stacking themselves on top of one another in the hopes of reaching honeycomb at the top of a tall tree. Unfortunately for them, they are attacked by Bumblebee bums causing all the animals to jump into the water to escape being stung! This is a hilarious book and you cannot help but laugh when you say Duck-billed platypus gluteus maximus– it is very fun to say! We highly recommend you order this book from the public library to enjoy with your family.
