It is with great pleasure that I welcome you and your child to my class.  I am looking forward to a very exciting and rewarding school year!

Home Reading Program

It is important that there is time set aside for your child to read every night for at least 20 minutes.  When they have finished reading for the night, please initial the home reading log to verify they have completed their nightly reading.  The home reading log is to be returned every day.

XtraMath

All students will be participating in XtraMath (www.xtramath.org).  It is a free web program that teaches addition and subtraction facts.  The link to the site is on the Fun Links page of this blog (see above).

Agendas and Spelling Lists

On Monday you will find your child’s spelling list in their agenda.  Please practice with your child and sign your name next to the spelling list.  This lets me know that you have seen their spelling list and have made sure that they have practiced their words.  We will use the agenda daily to record any homework, special activities, as well as any reminders for the students.  Please check and initial their agenda every night and return it to school daily.  Also, if there are any notes from me to you, you will usually find it in the agenda, please feel free to write to me in the agenda too.

Attendance

School begins at 9:00 a.m.  It is important that your child arrive to school on time and attend regularly.  However, if your child is sick, please keep them at home until they are feeling better.  It is difficult for them to concentrate and learn when they are not feeling well.

Parents: It is important for you to work alongside your child and to support their learning.  Your involvement plays a significant role in your child’s success and their attitude towards school.  Please do not hesitate to visit or call if you have any questions.

Thank-you,

Ms. Becker
