We Love Math!
Our new classroom display celebrates our love of Math! This month we are working hard on creating and extending patterns of 3 to 5 elements. Parents, you can help support our Math learning at home. Ask your child to make and name patterns with household objects. Ask your child what kind of attributes a pattern can have? (Hint- colour, shape or size). Ask you child how many times a group has to repeat for it to be a pattern? (Hint- 3 or more times).

Even and Odd Test
There will be an even and odd test next Wednesday October 16, 2013. We have been working hard learning about even and odd numbers. Even numbers end with a 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 and odd numbers end with a 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9. Please practice counting even and odd numbers with your child for extra reinforcement. Thanks for your support.
Counting Practice at Home
Parents of Division 14,
We have been focusing on counting during math time. It would be great if you could practice with your child at home for extra reinforcement.
Students have been working on counting by:
-1s starting at 0 until 100- forwards AND backwards
-2s starting at 0 until 100 (even numbers)- forwards AND backwards
-2s starting at 1 until 99 (odd numbers)- forwards
-5s starting at 5 until 100- forwards AND backwards
-10s starting at 10 until 100- forwards AND backwards
-10s starting at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9- forwards
For now I’m providing “hundreds boards” (shown below) for help until students are comfortable enough to count on their own. You can easily make your own “hundreds board” for using at home or I can give you a photocopy of one. Please see me if you have any questions. Thanks for your support!
