Papier-Mache Sculptures
For the last few buddy class times we have been creating papier-mache sculptures. This is a very long process and we are not finished yet. First we had to meet with our buddies and make a plan of what we would like to sculpt. Second, we had to blow up balloons and papier-mache the bodies of our sculptures. Third, we cut up egg cartons, paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls and taped them to the bodies for eyes, noses, ears, feet etc. Now we are at the fourth stage were we are adding more layers of papier-mache to strengthen our sculptures and ensure the added eyes, noses, ears, feet etc. stay on tight. Below are pictures of the little buddies with their papier-mache sculptures (thus far) and their plans.
Butterfly Specimen Boxes Part II

Using our plans we created our good copy butterflies. These butterflies were mounted in specimen boxes and hung in the hallway outside our classroom door. They look so real that one teacher told us to “set our butterflies free!”

Spring Cherry Blossoms
I love this time of year! After days and days of rain it is so nice to see all the cherry blossoms come out. 59th Avenue closer to Fraser Street has cherry trees that are all in bloom. We made our own cherry blossoms using the bottom of pop bottles. Come by our classroom to see this unique art.

Buddy Caricatures
Each week we meet with our Grade 6/7 Buddy Class. For the last few months each student has been working hard creating a caricature of their buddy. Big and little buddies also interviewed each other and wrote a short biography about their buddy. Once all of the caricatures and biographies are mounted they will be displayed in the hallways outside of Ms. Becker’s room and Ms. Brightwell’s room. To see a sneak peek of the caricatures please watch the slideshow below.
