February is a great month for books, films, class discussions and lessons about family diversity.
You can celebrate the diversity of VSB families by:
- Reading a family diversity book: The Great Big Book of Families by Mary Hoffman (lesson plan), Ulysse et Alice by Ariane Bertouille (lesson guide), and other books from your school library.
- Show and discuss the film That’s a Family (K-6) and try a lesson from the curriculum guide (available in your library)
- Show and discuss the NFB film, Apples and Oranges (3-7).
- Try a lesson plan from Welcoming Schools, GLSEN, Pride Education Network, Alberta’s Teachers Association Prism Toolkit (English) (French)
- Share and discuss the poster: Family diversity: It’s all about love and Il existe toutes sortes de famille: où on s’aime et sent bien. Click here for discussion questions and activities.
