SPELLING EXPECTATIONS FOR GRADE 2<\/span><\/h2>\n

NOTE: \u00a0Traditional weekly spelling tests will NOT be given as research shows they are not effective. Traditional spelling tests are often a measure of memorization skills, rather than true mastery. \u00a0Instead, emphasis will be placed on understanding and using spelling patterns and sight words.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Here are the words for the Grade 2 spelling units.\u00a0 At this stage, students are gradually moving from invented spelling (or “kid writing” as I call it in the classroom) to conventional spelling. \u00a0Our goal by the end of the year is to know how to spell these common sight words correctly, in preparation for Grade 3!<\/span><\/p>\n
