Physics Opportunities

Metro Vancouver Physics Circle

The Physics Circle is an outreach program catering to motivated and advanced high school students in physics. UBC Physics professors will give lectures on advanced physics topics, including sharing some of their research. Participating students will be given challenging problems to solve; the students may tackle in groups, solo and/or with the assistance of volunteers. Students may have the opportunity to access UBC Physics laboratories (pending availability) and conduct experiments under the supervision of Physics professors and volunteers, on topics relevant to the session. Pizza and refreshments will be provided at all sessions for every participant to enjoy.

Saturday Morning Lectures

TRIUMF, UBC, and SFU are proud to present the Saturday Morning Lecture series on Frontiers of Modern Physics. These free lectures are at a level appropriate for high school students and members of the general public. Everyone is welcome.

UBC Geering Up Special Events

Geering Up offers special programs and one-day events throughout the year. We host on and off-campus events for students in Grades 4 and up. All events take a hands-on and innovative approach to exploring the different fields in STEM and feature new activities each year.

Geering Up ASAP Summer Program

This summer, Geering Up is offering week-long programs for high school students at UBC Vancouver, UBCO Kelowna, and South Surrey! Our high school summer programs inspire and challenge youth through fun, innovative, and hands-on experiments and projects. We will be offering engaging day programs this year for our high school students.

UBC Physics Summer Camp Volunteer

The Phenomenal Physics Summer Camp is an annual summer camp program run by UBC Department of Physics & Astronomy on UBC campus. Camp participants engage in fun scientific activities designed to encourage thinking and experimenting. In the past, they have experimented with electricity, designed hovercrafts, constructed Martian habitats, conducted chemistry experiments and played with tornado tubes and musical instruments. Our goal is to stimulate the minds of these young scientists, and inspire them to explore science further in the future.

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work with teachers, UBC students, and professors in the UBC Department of Physics & Astronomy. You will also gain valuable experience working with a group of kids. By being involved, you will spend time at UBC and visit university laboratories and facilities. This is also a great place to earn volunteer or career preparation hours. Last but not least, you will receive a free summer camp T-shirt!
