While this is a challenging endeavor, it will help you to both review and show academic wisdom about the phylum Chordate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step One<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>You are to work on this mission either by your self or one other person. No groups of three!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step Two<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Select one specific chordate and do not do an animal that has already been chosen. Remember that we do have three chordates in the room that would appreciate some attention!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step Three<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Gathering both image and factual content, you will need to discuss 10 key topics about your organism.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Background information:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>How does your animal fit into taxonomy of chordate<\/li>\n<li>Show example of similar and different animals linked to your animal<\/li>\n<li>Show a cladogram of where your animal fits into all chordates.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Discuss body plan of your organism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Compare unique features of your organism to similar species.<\/li>\n<li>Discuss unique physical adaptions linked to body plan. (For example: limbs, fins, fur, scales)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Feeding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>What features does your organism have linked to eating?<\/li>\n<li>Where on the food chain is your organism?<\/li>\n<li>Does your organism eat all the time?<\/li>\n<li>Can you include video clips of your organism eating?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Respiration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Discuss both how your organism gets oxygen and releases carbon dioxide.<\/li>\n<li>What structures are linked to your organism respiration?<\/li>\n<li>Can you show a video or image?<\/li>\n<li>What sort of circulatory system does your organism have?<\/li>\n<li>How is your organism\u2019s circulatory and respiratory systems linked to the habit that your organism lives in?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Excretion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>What structures are linked to your organism\u2019s removal of metabolic waste?<\/li>\n<li>What type of nitrogen product does your organism make and why?<\/li>\n<li>How does your organism keep water balance?<\/li>\n<li>How is the habitat your organism lives in linked to excretion?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Response<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>How developed is your organism\u2019s responses to stimuli?<\/li>\n<li>Which is the strongest and weakest sense?<\/li>\n<li>Can you provide a video clip of sample behaviours?<\/li>\n<li>Can you provide a comparison of your organism\u2019s brain and senses to other linked and not linked chordate?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Movement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>How does your organism move?<\/li>\n<li>What structures are linked to your organism\u2019s movement?<\/li>\n<li>Video clip of movement?<\/li>\n<li>What adaption has occurred to facilitate your organism\u2019s movement?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Reproduction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>How does your organism reproduce?<\/li>\n<li>Do you have a life cycle of your organism?<\/li>\n<li>What structures are linked to your organism regarding (eggs, placenta)<\/li>\n<li>Is your organism\u2019s young born inside or out side of the female?<\/li>\n<li>What is the duration for embryo development?<\/li>\n<li>What unique reproductive behaviours are linked to your organism?<\/li>\n<li>Does you organism have unique reproductive structures?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Populations and group behavior<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Does your organism live alone or with a group?<\/li>\n<li>What is the name of a group of your organisms called?<\/li>\n<li>Does your organism have unique group behaviours such as migration or \u201cpack\u201d behavior?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Ecology and link to Humans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Discuss how your organism \u201cfits\u201d into ecological levels of interactions<\/li>\n<li>Discuss the positive and negative interactions between your organism and other organisms (both animal and plant)<\/li>\n<li>How is your organism linked to human populations?<\/li>\n<li>Is your organism an endangered species and if so, how or what could be done to limit your organism extinction?<\/li>\n<li>Why did you pick your organism<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>That is so cool category<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Has your organism been in popular social media?<\/li>\n<li>Has your organism been a movie or TV character?<\/li>\n<li>What are some amazing \u201cfacts\u201d that have not been mentioned?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Criteria<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Your \u201cslides\u201d should show a uniform pattern regarding both colour and font size (need to be able to read from the back of the room.<\/li>\n<li>You should include: pictures, diagrams, life cycle, and video content.<\/li>\n<li>For your power point, you should be prepared to possibly present your information.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>You will need to include both an introductory title page with your organism\u2019s binomial and generic name. You will also need to include the date and your name (s)<\/li>\n<li>The final slide (s) should include a detailed bibliography of all your data used in your power point.<\/li>\n<li>You are to hand in a simple written \u201creflective response\u201d which should include: some of the challenges of the assignment, what you found interesting, what you \u201clearned\u201d that was related to the years content and validation for what mark you feel you deserve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This assignment is due on the last official class of Bio 11.<\/p>\n<p>No late assignments will be marked.
