Today, March 18th, was a very special day. As it was Jelena\u2019s birthday, we commenced the day with a small celebration at breakfast. We sang happy birthday and gave her a fake candle-the hotel didn\u2019t have any real ones-and a chocolate croissant. Afterwards, we all got on the bus and took a one hour drive to Juno Beach. Once there, we received a guided tour around the bunkers by a young Canadian from Winnipeg. The bunkers were built by Germans who occupied France in 1941, primarily to plan invasions as opposed to fighting. On June 6, 1944, the Allies, which included 14,000 Canadian soldiers stormed Juno Beach in order to free France. It was a success, but we lost approximately 60% of our soldiers in the battle, which lasted four days. After our visit to Juno Beach, we visited a small coastal town for lunch where the temporary quays were placed by Allies so they could dock ships, allowing for more artillery. This beach is named Gold Beach. Then we proceeded to Bayeux. <\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Quand nous sommes arriv\u00e9s \u00e0 Bayeux, nous sommes d’abord all\u00e9s voir la tapisserie de Bayeux. Ceci \u00e9tait extr\u00eamement int\u00e9ressant: non seulement est-ce que c’est la tapisserie la plus longue que nous ayons jamais vu, mais il y a aussi \u00e9norm\u00e9ment de d\u00e9tails ! Chaque partie, ou plut\u00f4t figure, a une position sp\u00e9cifique et est brod\u00e9e dans des couleurs multicolores et vives qui aident vraiment \u00e0 mieux voir les sc\u00e8nes, donner de la profondeur et visualiser la bataille de Hastings. De plus, le guide audio \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s utile puisque \u00e7a donnait du contexte \u00e0 l’\u00e9v\u00e8nement et aidait \u00e0 mieux comprendre l’histoire. Le fait que la tapisstrie de Bayeux soit brod\u00e9e \u00e0 la main et ait r\u00e9ussie \u00e0 survivre pendant des centaines d’ann\u00e9es sans grands dommages est incroyable!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Ensuite, nous sommes all\u00e9s visiter la Cath\u00e9drale Notre-Dame de Bayeux. M\u00eame si nous avons d\u00e9j\u00e0 visit\u00e9 quelques cath\u00e9drales pendant les jours pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, celle-ci \u00e9tait une surprise qui ne nous a pas d\u00e9\u00e7u; elle contenait, bien s\u00fbr, des beaux vitraux, mais aussi une cripte (sous-sol), ce qui \u00e9tait un nouvel \u00e9l\u00e9ment pour nous !<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0La visite de cette cath\u00e9drale calme et majestueuse n’\u00e9tait pas la fin de notre journ\u00e9e. Nous avons mang\u00e9 le d\u00eener dans un petit restaurant mignon situ\u00e9 \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 d’un ruisseau, duquel la vue \u00e9tait belle et dont les cr\u00eapes \u00e9taient d\u00e9licieuses!<\/span><\/p>\n
