{"id":556,"date":"2013-09-26T06:36:42","date_gmt":"2013-09-26T06:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/jpavao\/?page_id=556"},"modified":"2013-10-04T14:51:58","modified_gmt":"2013-10-04T21:51:58","slug":"grad-transitions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/jpavao\/grad-transitions\/","title":{"rendered":"Grad Transitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: x-large\">PW Graduation Transitions Program <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: small\"><em><strong>Grad Transitions <\/strong>is an off-timetable Ministry of Education requirement for Grade 12s,<\/em> which provide anopportunity to prepare students for a successful transition to life after secondary school. The program is designed to allow you to develop and reflect on your strengths, experiences and achievements as a student and apply that knowledge to developing a plan for your life after High School.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;font-size: small\"><br \/>\n<em>In order to obtain credit for the Graduation Transitions you will be required to complete three assignments and collect evidence of involvement related to the following learning areas: Personal Health, Community Connections, and Career and Life<\/em>. <strong>Students must complete all requirements in order to graduate and will be asked to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">provide an email address to facilitate communication<\/span>, with the expectation that they will be checking it periodically.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>You will be assisted with your Graduation Transitions work throughout the year with information sessions and individual meetings with the Graduation Transitions Coordinator and your grade counsellor. All completed assignments should be submitted on time to the dropbox in the Main Office. Check the school website or my blog\u00a0periodically for deadlines, information and downloadable assignments.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: small\">*To open and print the logs and forms, you need Adobe&#8217;s Acrobat or Reader. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: small\">FAQs\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">What type of work or volunteer experience counts toward Transitions credit?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Any service activity performed in your grade 10, 11 or 12 year for which you do <b>not<\/b> receive high school credit counts toward your work or volunteer hours.\u00a0 This service can be paid or unpaid and performed in or out of school.\u00a0 You must collect evidence for any service that you complete.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">What types of exercise are acceptable toward the completion of my physical activity hours?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Any activity that gets your heart rate up is acceptable.\u00a0 The ministry of education asks that students complete 80 hours of <b>moderate<\/b> to <b>intensive<\/b> physical activity.\u00a0 You must collect evidence for any type of physical activity that you record in your log.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">What is evidence?\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Evidence is material submitted by students to demonstrate participation, knowledge, skills and competencies.\u00a0 Evidence can be written, oral, or electronic.\u00a0 The <b>confirmation forms <\/b>available to download on the Transitions website can be a simple way to provide evidence.\u00a0 Other examples include letters from an involved adult, photographs, pamphlets or completed application forms among many others.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Does any of the work that I completed on last year\u2019s Graduation Portfolio count towards the new Graduation Transitions program?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Yes, if you completed and<i> submitted<\/i> Aspect 4.1 from your Graduation Portfolio assignments credit will be transferred to Aspect 1.2 of your Graduations Transitions assignments.\u00a0 Also, the completed activity log and the work\/volunteer activity log from last year can be used for this year\u2019s program.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">How will this course be graded\/marked?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">This is essentially a pass\/fail course.\u00a0 No percentage or letter grade will be given on report cards for Graduation Transitions. \u00a0On the student\u2019s term 2 report card they will be issued a work habits mark and a comment indicating the amount of work completed for the Graduation Transitions program.\u00a0 This work habit mark may affect a student\u2019s honour roll status. \u00a0The pass\/fail grade will appear on a student\u2019s final grade 12 report card as \u201cRequirement Met\u201d (RM) or \u201cRequirement Not Met\u201d (RNM).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">What are employability skills?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">They are the generic skills that everyone needs for success in the workplace.\u00a0 The Conference Board of Canada organizes these skills into three areas:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\">Fundamental Employability Skills<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">: written and verbal communication, managing information, using numbers, and problem solving. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\">Personal management employability skills<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">: positive attitudes, responsibility, adaptability, continuous learning, and workplace safety.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\">Teamwork employability skills<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\"><strong>:<\/strong> working with others, project or task planning, and project or task completion.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">When do I have to get this all done by?<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Students in Grade <b>12<\/b> should have <strong>Aspects 1.1 and 1.2 done by Monday December 16th<\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">The <strong>due date for Aspect 1.3 is Monday March 3rd .\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\" style=\"font-family: Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: small\">Students in grades <b>10<\/b> and <b>11<\/b> are encouraged to get aspects 1.1 and 1.2 done as soon possible and 1.3 should be done early in their grade 12 year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a
