JO PAC Meeting Minutes
Date: December 6th, 2023 at 7pm
Location: In person in library and on Zoom
In attendance: 19 in total
Meeting called to order at 7:10pm – Samantha Anderson
Welcome and Introductions
Treasurer’s report: Sue Bains
• Balances: Gaming – $2,342.17
Legacy – $332.14
Consultative – $3,709.79
PAC account at school: $870.00
• We were able to meet most of the requests.
• Cheques have all been issued.
• 50/50 raffle has been going well, monthly winners have all been paid out.
Principal’s report: Brent Schieman
• Mid-semester report cards are available online at MyEd. Parents who cannot login
should contact the school to reset the password.
• All parents are advised to download a copy and print a copy for their records.
• Jokers Classic has ended. The Girls Senior team placed 3rd and Junior Team placed
2nd. Congrats to all the players!
• The Winter Concert has been running every month, next performance on December
20th. There will be another in January. We would love to see an increase in
attendance!
• The Life Skills teachers are hosting district wide winter party this Friday. They are
expecting 140 students, SSA and teachers to attend. They are thankful for the
support from the various Service Clubs in planning and helping to run this event.
• Winter Madness will take place on the last day before break. All students are invited
to attend a fun talent showcase in the last block of the day.
• Grade 8’s are finishing Applied Skills and will be moving into their last rotation.
• Art Sale Event will be held on March 9th/10th. Samantha met with David McCann, a
philanthropist who will be donating various art prints he has collected over the years.
In 2019, he hosted an event at Tupper Secondary raised over $135,000.
The funds raised through the art show will be distributed between Adopt A School, Loving Spoonful and food programs at JO. Separately, David McCann is donating $18,000 as seed funding for the campaign to replace the bleachers.
• The drama students are putting on a play called Fraser Feat. The show dates are Dec
12, 13, 14 and 15th. For tickets please email a.gill@vsb.bc.ca (drama teacher). Please
note there is mature content, you can contact drama teacher for more info.
• There are new couches in the staff room and a staff party planned for Dec 14th.
• The school received 31 new computer monitors for one of the computer labs.
Fundraising update: Linh Lam-Shukla
• The 50/50 raffle jackpot reached $920 in November! We are inviting everyone to buy
a ticket and hopefully we will hit a higher jackpot in December. The winner receives
50% of the jackpot and PAC receives the other half. Thank you to everyone who has
purchased a ticket!
• We will host a community BINGO event in April, more info to come.
DPAC update: Samantha Anderson
• Vancouver District PAC seeking new members to join the different working groups
such as health and safety, facilities etc.
