He graduated from Magee Secondary School in 1937.In May 1940, Richards and his 11- piece dance band began a six-week gig at \u201cThe Roof\u201d at the Vancouver Hotel. This engagement was extended to 25 years of performances, including live performances broadcast on radio. In 1994, Richards was inducted into the Order of Canada and the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame. He and his band played 79 consecutive New Years Eve concerts until his death in 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>MICHELLE LANG\u00a0<\/strong>(1975 \u2013 2009)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Michelle Lang was born in Vancouver. Following her graduation for Simon Fraser University, she pursued a career in journalism.She began her career as a journalist with the\u00a0<em>Prince George Free Press<\/em>. She went on to stints with the\u00a0<em>Moose Jaw Times Herald<\/em>, the\u00a0<em>Regina leader-Post<\/em>, and the\u00a0<em>Calgary Herald<\/em>. In 2008, Lang won a National Newspaper Award for \u2018best beat reporting\u2019. In 2009, while on a reporting assignment in Afghanistan, she was killed by a road-side bomb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>ROBERT CHRISTY <\/strong>(1916 \u2013 2012)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Robert Christy was born in Vancouver. In 1932, he graduated with the highest examination score in British Columbia. Following his graduation from the University of British Columbia, Christy was accepted as a graduate student at the University of California by Robert Oppenheimer, leading theoretical physicist in the United States. In 1942, he joined the Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bombs used against Japan in August 1945.
