BLOCK 37 (1893- 1951)<\/strong><\/p>\n

1893\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Construction of Vancouver High School nears completion. At centre is the one-floor, two-room wooden building that at different times held elementary classes, high school classes, and Vancouver School Board offices. At far right is Central School, Vancouver’s first brick school building.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During 1893 – 1910,\u00a0the\u00a0main offices of the Vancouver School Board were\u00a0housed in Vancouver High School.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During 1910 – 1951, the Vancouver School Board occupied a 3-story rectangular building at Hamilton and Dunsmuir<\/strong><\/p>\n

The photo at\u00a0top<\/strong> was taken in 1921.\u00a0It provides a good view of\u00a0Block 37. The Vancouver School Board occupied\u00a0the rectangular building visible at\u00a0center left, behind a row of trees.\u00a0To its left\u00a0is the old Vancouver High School building, then home to the Vancouver School of Art.<\/p>\n

The photo\u00a0at centre<\/strong>\u00a0was taken\u00a0on November 11, 1932, 14 years after the end\u00a0of World War One. It\u00a0provides a view of the front entrance of the Vancouver School Board building. The group gathered there were VSB employees who were veterans of World War One.<\/p>\n

The photo at bottom<\/strong> was taken in 1925.It shows a display of clothing made by sewing class students.<\/p>\n
