SEVERE WEATHER<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Vancouver School <\/span>District<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>has procedures\u00a0<\/span>in place for<\/span>\u00a0situations\u00a0<\/span>where<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>severe weather like heavy snowfall, <\/span>extremely high<\/span> winds or h<\/span><\/span>eat waves <\/span>may<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>affect school operations.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

All schools in the Vancouver School District will remain open if\u00a0<\/span>possible<\/span>\u00a0during severe weather events.\u00a0<\/span>If a\u00a0<\/span>D<\/span>istrict-wide closure\u00a0<\/span>is necessary, that\u00a0<\/span>will be decided by 7:00 a.m<\/strong>. The VSB will post information about school closures on its website at www.vsb.bc.ca<\/a> and will inform local media stations. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Please check the following stations for school closure information:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n\u2022 CJVB (1470 AM)
\n\u2022 CFHG (96.1 FM)

Please note that no announcement will be made stating that schools are open. Only closures and delayed openings will be announced<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Individual school closures due to unique circumstances (<\/span>e.g.,<\/span> power outages) will be announced as early as possible on the affected schools\u2019 websites. On occasion, schools may delay the start of the school day. If this happens, specific details will again be posted on the school website.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Student safety is\u00a0<\/span>our<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>top<\/span>\u00a0priority.\u00a0<\/span>Parents\/guardians are responsible for their children’s safe travel to and from school. If\u202ffor any reason\u202fa parent\/guardian feels that a child cannot travel safely to<\/span>\/from<\/span>\u00a0school, then they should make other arrangements.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During extreme weather conditions it is also common for\u00a0<\/span>emergency services<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and other authorities to advise citizens to avoid unnecessary travel.\u00a0<\/span>Families<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>should take this advice as well. Students will not be penalized for lack of attendance under such poor weather conditions. Students are reminded to wear appropriate clothing for the conditions. When sidewalks and roads are slippery, students walking to school should take extra care.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
