Safety protocols, we are beginning to see a light at the end of our really long tunnel.\u00a0 We really appreciate everything you as parents and care-givers are doing towards keeping everyone safe and well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I also wanted to thank PAC and especially Erin Lee for organizing a very informative and inspiring evening with speaker Michelle Wing where parents looked at anti-racism and decolonization including how parents can talk about these topics at home and how we as a school community can support these conversations.\u00a0 The VSB is committed to supporting these initiatives and all VSB staff will be attending an anti-racism workshop on September 7th, 2021.\u00a0 We as a school will also begin the process of reexamining learning through a lens of equity that centers our BIPOC and marginalized students.<\/p>\n<p>It is that time of year where we begin the process of organizing our school for next year.\u00a0 On our school website is our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vsb.bc.ca\/schools\/general-gordon\/About-Us\/news\/_layouts\/15\/ci\/post.aspx?oaid=4f36da3a-d7d7-45fa-a125-bfeb341a7517&amp;oact=20001\">Class Placement Parent Information Form<\/a>.\u00a0 This is not a form that parents can use to request what class they would like their child to be placed in next year.\u00a0 It is an opportunity to provide the school with additional information about your child&#8217;s learning profile that we will consider in collaboration with class placements.\u00a0 Please reflect carefully on the information provided on the form.\u00a0 These forms can be submitted directly to the office but note that forms will not be accepted after <strong>Friday, May 28<sup>th<\/sup> <\/strong>and if <strong><u>names of staff members are used<\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;font-size: 18pt\"><strong>SCHOOL FEES 2021-2022<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Please click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vsb.bc.ca\/schools\/general-gordon\/About-Us\/news\/_layouts\/15\/ci\/post.aspx?oaid=3964bb8c-bf08-4700-acf2-2a2f89660f44&amp;oact=20001\">here<\/a> to view our school fees for the 2021-2022 school year.\u00a0 These fees are collected at the beginning of the school year through our SchoolCashOnline system.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif\">EARTH DAY<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"letter-spacing: 0.8px\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-177 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gordon\/files\/2021\/04\/Earth-Day-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"138\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The <em><strong>Social Justice Club<\/strong> <\/em>and the <em><strong>Dream Green Club<\/strong><\/em> would like to send a huge thank you to the Gordon Community for supporting their Earth Day initializes.\u00a0 Thanks to\u00a0your generous donations, we have raised <span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>$1150<\/strong><\/span> which will plant <span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>230 trees<\/strong><\/span>!\u00a0 This is way past our goal of 100 trees.\u00a0 Look for a special acknowledgment coming soon on the Gordon website.\u00a0 We also want to thank all the students who wore blue and green and brought a litterless lunch to school.\u00a0 Thank you for your support!<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif\">GARDEN BEDS<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-173 alignright\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gordon\/files\/2021\/04\/garden-bed-1-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"191\" height=\"249\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Students are very excited about seeing their hard work growing in our garden beds.\u00a0 A number of divisions have been learning about where our food comes from and <span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\">how to grow our food.\u00a0 Besides the garden beds, classes have also been part of a project called &#8220;spuds in tubs&#8221; where they are growing potatoes in pots.\u00a0 To learn more click <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bcaitc.ca\/spuds-tubs\">here<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\">.\u00a0 As tempting as it is for kids to explore and play in the garden beds, we would appreciate your support in reminding your children that our garden beds are part of our outdoor classrooms and that they need to be respected.\u00a0 Our teachers and students are very proud of our garden and would like to see their hard work rewarded with a bountiful crop to harvest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-174\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gordon\/files\/2021\/04\/potatoes-1-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"184\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif\">SPRING WEATHER<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-175 alignleft\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gordon\/files\/2021\/04\/sun-hat-and-sun-screen-300x242.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"152\" height=\"127\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As the weather gets nicer so does the need to dress and prepare ourse<span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\">lves for the sun.\u00a0 Please remember to send your child to school with a hat, cool clothing and suntan lotion already on.\u00a0 We will not be able to apply suntan lotion to children because of our health and safety measures.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t forget their water bottle as well.\u00a0 We only have water filling stations and not water fountains.\u00a0 Thanks for your support!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif\">BIG ONE AT 2<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Traditionally, the VSB has held their annual Earthquake Drill throughout the whole district on <em><strong>May 6th <\/strong><\/em>at<em><strong> 2PM<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 <\/span>The drill gives us a chance to review the supplies in our Earthquake Bin, ensure each staff member knows their important roles in case of a real disaster as well as practicing our student release procedures.\u00a0 However, with Covid we will only be practicing our <em>Drop-Cover and Hold<\/em> in the classroom and not doing a school wide evacuation.\u00a0 Teachers will be going over with their classes what the expectations are if it was a real emergency.\u00a0 Please speak to your child&#8217;s teacher if you feel this will bring up any strong emotions for your child.<\/p>\n<p>The district has moved the date of our full Earthquake Drill to <em><strong>October 21st<\/strong> <\/em>as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shakeoutbc.ca\/\">Great BC ShakeOut<\/a>.\u00a0 This is a great reminder to review your own emergency preparedness at home and talk about what you as a family would do if there was a natural disaster.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif\"><strong>SUMM<\/strong><\/span><strong style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;letter-spacing: 0.05em\">ER SCHOOL<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"letter-spacing: 0.8px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-179 alignright\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 16px;letter-spacing: 0.8px;color: #888888\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gordon\/files\/2021\/04\/Summer-Experience-2021-300x171.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"202\" height=\"124\" \/><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Registration: May 4, 8:00 a.m. &#8211;
