{"id":144,"date":"2021-03-12T11:29:56","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T19:29:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gordon\/?p=144"},"modified":"2021-05-31T10:05:30","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T17:05:30","slug":"april-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gordon\/2021\/03\/12\/april-newsletter\/","title":{"rendered":"April Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>GORDON HAPPENINGS<\/h1>\n<p>Spring has sprung both inside the school and outside!\u00a0 Please take a moment to visit our Gordon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vsb.bc.ca\/schools\/general-gordon\/Pages\/default.aspx\">website<\/a> to see some amazing art projects that the students have been doing.<\/p>\n<p>It is also wonderful that in Vancouver we can enjoy the Spring weather outside.\u00a0 Hopefully some of the health orders will be lifted soon but in the meantime, we are encouraging parents and caregivers to leave the grounds after school so there is not the optics of a large number of people gathering on the playgrounds.\u00a0 Our outdoor areas are also used frequently by Jericho Kids Club after school.\u00a0 Please consider taking your children to the local parks in the neighbourhood to play.\u00a0 We really appreciate your support.<\/p>\n<p>The staff at Gordon wishes all our families a restful and safe Spring Break.\u00a0 We hope that families will be able to recharge and enjoy some time together, especially outdoors and away from the technology.\u00a0 The PAC hosted a presentation put on by Dr. Shimi Kang that focused on developing healthy tech habits in kids (and even adults!).\u00a0 She has a number of great resources on her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drshimikang.com\/\">website<\/a> as well as recommended apps.\u00a0 She also suggested the <span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.8px\">BC Children&#8217;s Hospital <\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\">Kelty Mental Health <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\" href=\"https:\/\/keltymentalhealth.ca\/\">website<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\"> for tips and resources for supporting our children&#8217;s mental health.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/saferschoolstogether.com\/resources\/parent-resources\/\">Safer Schools Together<\/a> also has a number of parent resources for raising &#8220;Digitally Responsible Youth&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Stay safe and we look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday, March 29th.<\/p>\n<h2>Spring Break Programs<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Th<\/strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-138 alignleft\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0.8px\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gordon\/files\/2021\/03\/VPL-300x61.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"162\" height=\"41\" \/><strong>e\u00a0<\/strong><strong style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\">VPL is<\/strong><strong style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\">\u00a0offering a number of opportunities for children over Spring Break<\/strong><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\">.\u00a0 Join them online and in the library to celebrate Spring Break 2021.\u00a0 Click <\/span><a style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vpl.ca\/program\/spring-break\">here<\/a><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\"> for more information and online registration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Enjoy live \u201cdance bubbles\u201d across downtown Vancouver.\u00a0 <\/strong>A stunning art and performance installation is taking over downtown Vancouver throughout the month of March.\u00a0 More than a dozen &#8220;dance bubbles\u201d have been placed across the city\u2019s downtown core as part of #lovevancouver.\u00a0 The goal of the outdoor activity is to \u201cbring some joy to the city\u201d amidst a dark winter. The dance bubbles include light and dance performances projected at a distance and can be safely enjoyed by residents. This Spring Break, the FRDC is excited to offer two weeks of interactive activities, tours, and online programs.
