Spring has sprung both inside the school and outside! Please take a moment to visit our Gordon website to see some amazing art projects that the students have been doing.
It is also wonderful that in Vancouver we can enjoy the Spring weather outside. Hopefully some of the health orders will be lifted soon but in the meantime, we are encouraging parents and caregivers to leave the grounds after school so there is not the optics of a large number of people gathering on the playgrounds. Our outdoor areas are also used frequently by Jericho Kids Club after school. Please consider taking your children to the local parks in the neighbourhood to play. We really appreciate your support.
The staff at Gordon wishes all our families a restful and safe Spring Break. We hope that families will be able to recharge and enjoy some time together, especially outdoors and away from the technology. The PAC hosted a presentation put on by Dr. Shimi Kang that focused on developing healthy tech habits in kids (and even adults!). She has a number of great resources on her website as well as recommended apps. She also suggested the BC Children’s Hospital Kelty Mental Health website for tips and resources for supporting our children’s mental health. Safer Schools Together also has a number of parent resources for raising “Digitally Responsible Youth”.

Enjoy live “dance bubbles” across downtown Vancouver. A stunning art and performance installation is taking over downtown Vancouver throughout the month of March. More than a dozen “dance bubbles” have been placed across the city’s downtown core as part of #lovevancouver. The goal of the outdoor activity is to “bring some joy to the city” amidst a dark winter. The dance bubbles include light and dance performances projected at a distance and can be safely enjoyed by residents. Best of all, they’re free of charge.
When: Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays over the month of March

Arctic Voices. Arctic Voices is an 8,000-square-foot exhibition that takes visitors on an immersive journey over the tundra and into the world’s northernmost biome. The experience will showcase the people, ecology, wildlife, and way of life in the region. Developed by Science North, Arctic Voices invites you to marvel at the sights and sounds of this
tremendous and fragile region. Dance with auroras, hop on ice floes and learn just how deeply connected we are to the Arctic through this feature exhibition that will leave you awestruck and inspired.

Spring Break at the Fraser River Discovery Centre
(FRDC)! Take a break and spring into the Discovery Centre! This Spring Break, the FRDC is excited to offer two weeks of interactive activities, tours, and online programs. The staff and volunteers will also offer FRDC Exhibit Tours and Quayside Walking Tours, which provide different ways to explore the Fraser River’s economic, environmental, and cultural contributions to the province! There will be also online educational programs, FRDC@HOME, featuring DIY craft videos and new episodes of our Sit Spot series, which invite our community to engage with the natural beauty of the Fraser Watershed in new and creative ways!

Parking
We realize that mornings can sometimes be hectic and drop-off can be rushed but please remember not to park in the staff paring lot or block the entrances or laneway. Please consider parking a block away and walking your child to school. I am in the process of working with the City of Vancouver to develop a safe route to school plan. Stay tuned!
2021/2022 Return to School Notice
We are organizing staffing for the 2021-2022 school year. In order to calculate numbers for next year, it is important that we know which students will or will not be returning to Gordon Elementary for the 2021-2022 school year. Please complete the form below if you have not done so already. Should your situation change before the end of the school year, please contact the office as soon as possible with any new information. No child will be transferred out of Gordon until a formal request is made from the new school.
