{"id":329,"date":"2012-02-29T16:52:02","date_gmt":"2012-03-01T00:52:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gladstonelibrary.edublogs.org\/?page_id=329"},"modified":"2012-02-29T16:52:02","modified_gmt":"2012-03-01T00:52:02","slug":"works-cited","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gladstonelibrarylearningcommons\/works-cited\/","title":{"rendered":"Works Cited"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Here is some information that may be helpful when writing a Works Cited:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Noodletools<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Gladstone we have a subscription to the online citation generator called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noodletools.com\/logon\/signin?group=19235&amp;code=5000\">Noodletools<\/a>. Please click on the link, then click on &#8220;Register&#8221;. You will need to login using our school account. Please see Mrs. Montroy or Mr. Jakoy for the username and password. After this, you will need to create a personal ID. Please make sure you choose a password that you are familiar with that you will remember easily. There are lots of tutorials available from Noodletools; please ask for help if you need it.<\/p>\n<p>If you are working on a group project you can &#8220;Share&#8221; your Works Cited and Notecards with the other group members. Being able to work collaboratively on Notecards is a feature that was not available on Easybib and we thought you may like using it.<\/p>\n<p>You will also be asked to &#8220;Share&#8221; your project with Mrs. Montroy or Mr. Jakoy and possibly your teacher. We will show you how to do this.<\/p>\n<p>With our Noodletools subscription, citations can be done in MLA, APA or Chicago, all of which have helpful websites (please see the links below).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Worksheets to help with keeping track of sources while taking notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gladstonelibrarylearningcommons\/files\/2012\/02\/NotesWrksht-Print-z8ou5v.pdf\">Note taking Worksheet (Print Sources)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/gladstonelibrarylearningcommons\/files\/2012\/02\/NotesWrksht-Online-1rhtg3i.pdf\">Note taking Worksheet (Online Sources)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">MLA (Modern Language Association) Style:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/style.mla.org\/\">Modern Languages Association website<\/a>. The MLA has recently published its 8th edition of the MLA handbook (there is a copy in the Gladstone Library for you to look at). The website has information on the 8th edition and the changes that have been made, in particular a <a href=\"https:\/\/style.mla.org\/works-cited-a-quick-guide\/\">Quick Guide to Works Cited.<\/a>\u00a0The Quick Guide has an explanation of the core elements, as well as a practice template and some samples.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>How to write an Annotated Bibliograph<\/strong><strong>y<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>An Annotated Bibliography, as explained on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.sfu.ca\/help\/cite-write\/citation-style-guides\/annotated-bibliography\">SFU Library website<\/a>, is\u00a0 &#8220;&#8230;a bibliography (a list of books or other works) that includes descriptive and evaluative comments about the sources cited in your paper. These comments are also known as <em>annotations<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Each annotation that follows a citation is usually around 100-300 words in length. Please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.sfu.ca\/help\/cite-write\/citation-style-guides\/annotated-bibliography\">SFU Library website<\/a> for more information about what it contains.<\/p>\n<p>You can build an Annotated Bibliography in Noodletools. There is a box at the bottom of each citation where you can enter you annotation.
