Physics 11 – How Clean is Your Energy? – Ms. Christy

Welcome to the class page for this project. Important information and helpful tools are given below. Make sure to read everything!!

Blocks in the Library Learning Commons: Thursday, Feb 25 and Monday, Feb 29

Due date for the project: Thursday, March 10 (please hand in your Works Cited by this date)

Due date for citations to be completed in Noodletools (NOT printed out; just the citations online): Tuesday, March 8 (Ms. Montroy would like you to have ALL your citations in Noodletools completed by this date in order to give you feedback before you print and hand in your final copy).

Here are the links as given by Ms. Christy on the handout:

Natural Resources Canada – Energy (Efficiency, Resources, Sources and Distribution in Canada)

Stats Canada – Energy Statistics

Nation Master – Under “Categories”, choose Energy. You will then be able to see statistics on many countries around the world.

The World Energy Council – Data on World Energy Resources and more.

TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) Talks – Videos about Alternative Energy and Energy in general

Research:

Please use one book from the Library Learning Commons (there are lots on a cart; also take a look at the e-book called Alternative Energy on the VSB e-books/video page), at least one source from a VSB Database, and at least one website. Ms. Montroy and Ms. Christy will be looking at the QUALITY of your web sources, as opposed to QUANTITY. Try and choose websites that are connected to governments, universities and energy organizations (such as the sites listed above). Be aware of bias (strong opinions either for or against a particular energy source). Wikipedia can be used as a starting point for ideas, NOT as a final source for your research. Remember that you can go to the bottom of an article in Wikipedia for links. Check those out. 🙂 If you find a good website, please let Ms. Montroy know as she will add it to the list above.

You will be needing to complete a Works Cited (which you will hand in to Ms. Christy who will give it to Ms. Montroy to mark). We now use Noodletools. Ms. Montroy will show you how to set up an account and create a project if you have not done so already. If you have not used the Notes function yet in Noodletools make sure to check it out. Notes in Noodletools are an excellent way to keep track of your sources and to make notes. Also, make sure to SHARE your Works Cited with Ms. Montroy. VERY IMPORTANT!!
