Comparative Civ 12 – Ancient Persia – Ms. Thompson

Welcome to the class page for Ms. Thompson’s Comparative Civilization 12 class.

Here are some helpful links for your assignment:

Here is the assignment (see page 2 for the rubric): Persia Library Assignment

UNESCO World Heritage Sites (to find a site, type the name in the search bar)

There are some excellent ebooks available on Webcat. Go to Webcat, then click on ebooks/Video. Click on “Gale V Reference Library”, then login with the school’s username and login (see Ms. M or Ms. Macdonald if you need this information).

Scroll down to World Religions Reference Library. This ebook has an article on Zoroastrianism. It also cites the following website as a source on Zoroastrian pilgrimages: Places of Peace and Power

World Religions Reference Library,2007

You can also look in the ebook Ancient Civilizations Reference Library. This book has a chapter about Persia that lays out the basics for this civilization.

Ancient Civilizations Reference Library,2000

The following websites have information about Zoroastrianism and associated pilgrimages, but they come from religious websites, and so are likely somewhat subjective (may contain bias):

Zoroastrian Heritage

Zarathustri Pilgrimage Sites in Iran

And here is BBC news article about Zoroastrian pilgrimages: Zoroastrians make Iran pilgrimage

Here are a few other sites as well that you should look at for sure:

The Iran Chamber Society

The Encyclopedia Iranica (an online encyclopedia that focuses on the Iranian Civilization in the Middle East, the Caucasus, Central Asia and the Indian Subcontinent).

The Circle of Ancient Iranian Studies (a site dedicated to Ancient Iran and Iranian Civilization)

Essential Studies (an introductory guide to history and art history)

For this assignment you will create an annotated Photo Album / Travel Diary. Here is a list of some free online tools you can use to create a presentation/slideshow: Ed Tech 20 Free Tools

As well, you will need to create a Works Cited. We are now using an online tool called Noodletools. To access Noodletools and create an account, click on the link, then click on “Current Users Sign In”. Then click on “Create a Personal ID” then “Continue”. On the next screen, enter “happyrock” as the username, and the password that Mrs. M will give you.

You must create your own ID. I suggest you use your first initial then your last name. Noodletools does not use any emails so it’s important to write down what you choose as your username and password. Mrs. Montroy will show you how to use Noodletools. Please try out the Notebook; it’s a really great feature that will help you organize your work.

If you find other sources from the web (or in the Library Learning Commons) that you feel the rest of the class would be interested in, please send the link to Ms. M! Thanks!
