**when you are doing a Google search, don’t just click on the first link. Take a close look at the green writing underneath each result. That is the URL and it will tell you a lot about the site. Look for URLs that end in .org or .ca, and for URLS that indicate the information is from a reputable news source (such as CBC, The National Post, The Globe and Mail, etc. ). Also, make sure to get information from both sides of the issue (pro and con).

Some good search terms could be oil sands, tar sands, Keystone, Enbridge, oil pipeline, Suncor, Syncrude, etc.

Also, start with the database Global Issues in Context. Click on Webcat Library Catalogue (above), then Databases. The link is right above the link for the Student Research Center. Please ask Ms. Parungao or Mrs. Montroy for the username and password if you need it. Use the same search terms as suggested above. The results list will include information from a wide variety of sources (news, magazines, reference, and more!!). It’s an amazing resource that you should definitely use!

You also can get access to quite a few newspapers, such as the Vancouver Sun and Province. The links are on the Database page, at the bottom of the third column. Please see Ms. Parungao and Mrs. Montroy if you need the login info.

If you choose Wikipedia, PLEASE go down to the bottom of the particular page and take a close look at the References and External Links. You may find some great sources of information there.
