Science 10 STEP – Elements Prezi project – Mr. Goodman

Welcome to the class page for the Elements Prezi project.  This is a continuation of your study of the elements that you are doing in class.

Your goals will be to select an element, learn how it is used and other interesting facts, find some images and a video about your element and cite your sources on a Prezi.

Period 1
You will see a sample  Prezi presentation.  This is an example of what you will be creating with the information from your research.
1.  Select a book from the Benchmark Elements series.  This will be your topic.
2.  Fill in the notetaking sheet for a Book with the book information at the top and three ways the element is used.  The main idea will be on the left of the two-column notes and the supporting information about the main idea will be on the right of the two-column note.  Use point form, not sentences.

Period 2
You will be shown how to create a Prezi
3.  Find your element on the Periodic Table of Videos and watch it to the end. 
4.  Write three things that you learned and think others would be interested in.
5.  Fill in the notetaking sheet for Online Sources with the bibliographic information and the three things you learned from the video.  Use two-column notetaking format (main idea on the left and supporting information, starting with a dash, in the right column.
6.  Create a Prezi account.  Click on Sign Up Now (not Facebook Sign Up) then select the Public (free) license.  Use your first name and the initial of your last name. 
7.  Start putting your research findings on your Prezi presentation
7.  Save your Prezi from time to time

Period 3
7.  Continue creating your Prezi.  Once you have typed in your research, look for suitable images on Wikimedia Commons Images or Google Images
8.  Copy the image to your Prezi and cite the url below it to give credit to the person or organiziation that created the image.

Period 4
9.  Work period.  If you are finished, tell Mr. Goodman, Ms. Parungao or Mrs. Montroy. 
10.  If the teacher or teacher-librarian has checked your work and agree that your work is complete so far, then you can look for a video clip about your element on YouTubeFind a video that is shorter than two minutes long.
11.  Include this video in your Prezi.
12.  Save your Prezi presentation on a flash drive.
13.  Practice delivering your presentation on the SmartBoard.
