Geography 12 – Themes Project – Mr. Ho

Welcome to the class page for Mr. Ho’s Geography 12 Themes project. For this project, we are suggesting you use NoodleTools to make your Works Cited. We have temporary access to a free trial. Please click on the following link, which will take you to the trial login page –  Noodle Tools

Click on “Create a Personal ID” then enter the following login information:

Username: trial9300  Password: Please get this from Mrs. Montroy

After you put in the above Username and Password you will prompted to create your own personal ID. Please write this down somewhere so you don’t lose it. Please scroll down to the bottom of this page for more information on setting up your Noodletools account, how to share your citations with your partner and Mr. Ho and Mrs. Montroy and creating notecards/paraphrasing.

Here are some suggestions for your research (all of the following can be accessed by clicking on “Webcat Library Catalogue” in the blue menu at the top of this page):

For international newspaper articles:

Under Databases –> Research Databases, use Gale Global Issues in Context
For Canadian newspaper articles:
Under Databases –> Research Databases, use Canadian Periodical Index
OR
Log in to Vancouver Sun, click Search at the top, change date range, and type in search terms.
On Noodle-Tools:
1. Sign up for an account.
2. Create new project.  In science, we use the APA format for citing sources.
3. Share project with your partner.
4. Share project with/add project to two dropboxes: “hmontroy” and “mrhoclass”
5. Cite your news articles in the Bibliography.  Remember to pick the correct tab (eg. Database or Web) depending on where you found the newspaper article.
6. Then create notecards for each of the articles.  Begin paraphrasing and write your summary.  You can also write your connection-to-themes descriptions here if you want.
** Test out whether both partners can work on the notecard at the same time.
Eventually, you can copy and paste your draft summaries to a Word processing program, or a blog, depending on your final product.
Please make sure to ask Mr. Ho or Mrs. Montroy for help if needed. And have fun!!
