The focus of this “I Need To Understand (INTU) assignment is to identify a topic important to you related to biology and to communicate with / respond to others about the various topics. As you conduct your research, it is also important to find credible sources and to identify your sources by citing them correctly.

Database Sources – more credible than searching the world wide web
There are several databases that the Vancouver School Board subscribes to (pays money) for students and these are listed on the Webcat Database  page.  If you haven’t used it, try Consumer Health Complete. See the library for the username and password if you forgot.
Also, Vancouver students have a free trial until the end of January 2014 for the Science Reference Center database.  The password is posted in the library or you can ask Ms. Parungao or Mrs. Montroy for it.

Citing sources – see the teacher-librarians for assistance
You may cite using APA style (preferred by Ms. Mergens) or MLA style (if you use EasyBib). Whichever format you use, be consistent throughout your Works Cited list.

Citing APA style
APA style (6th edition) is preferred (information about this on Ms. Mergen’s website. If you require more comprehensive information about citing using APA, please go to Simon Fraser University, the University of Toronto, or Owl Purdue.

Citing MLA style
Use EasyBib. This defaults to MLA format.
