Courses
Chemistry 11 – MCH–11
Chemistry 11 involves students in a wide variety of activities. These include many experiments, chemical theory, calculations and projects on current topics in chemistry.
Areas of study include:
• Measurement and communication
• The mole
• Chemical reactions
• Structure of the atom and the periodic table
• Chemical bonding
• Solution chemistry
• Organic chemistry
Chemistry 12 – MCH—12
Chemistry 12 is a lab-oriented course that involves the application of concepts from Chemistry 11. Students should be proficient with the mole, stoichiometry, atomic structure, and naming compounds & writing formula concepts from Chemistry 11. An ability to comfortably manipulate algebraic equations to at least a grade 10 level is strongly recommended.
Areas of study include:
• Reaction kinetics
• Dynamic equilibrium
• Solubility equilibrium
• Acids, bases and salts
• Electrochemistry
AP Chemistry 12 – ACHE-12
This course is intended for highly motivated students planning to enter Sciences in post-secondary. The emphasis of the course is on chemical and mathematical calculations and laboratory work. The content includes all Chemistry 12 topics including solubility, acid base chemistry, equilibrium, kinetics, and electrochemistry. In addition, this course goes
into greater depth of some Chemistry 11 topics
including gas laws and stoichiometry.
Students will prepare to write the Advanced Placement Chemistry Examination.
