I have drawn up an outline that you are welcome to follow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Research:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Who?<\/p>\n<p>What?<\/p>\n<p>When?<\/p>\n<p>Where?<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>You might want to read about the type of society the artist lived in \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and how it affected the artist point of view.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>The Artwork: Pick one piece that you think is representative of the artist.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Using the concepts taught in class, such as line qualities, color theory, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 depth illusion, positive &amp; negative space, realism, abstraction, composition, balance, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Describe what you see in, or feel, about the painting.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 * Ask your self questions like:<\/p>\n<p>What can I see in the picture plane? How has it been composed? \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Where does my eye go\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 when I look at it? Is it \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 realistic or abstract? Is the artist using any particular \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 color theory? How do the technical features work together?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Analyze what do you think the work is about.<\/p>\n<p>* Ask your self questions like:<\/p>\n<p>Is it narrative, does it tell a story, or is it abstract and \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 talk about mood? What do the various parts of the painting do \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to, or for, the work as a whole?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Judge how well you think the artist did.<\/p>\n<p>* Ask your self questions like:<\/p>\n<p>Do I like it? Why or why not. Does this artwork do \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 anything for me?<\/p>\n<p>You can say anything you want as long as you can back it up!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Paper: each student will hand in his or her findings. Please include a photocopy of the artwork you wrote about. For the research part of the essay I will require you to quote all your sources.
