        Pre-1900 most Army’s dressed their soldier up in colourful\u00a0uniforms so that everyone knew how were the enemy. \u00a0 It also, hopefully, helped generals have an idea as to where not to fire their cannons!<\/div>\n

        The British Army in 1902 \u00a0were the first to \u00a0” adopted a universal khaki uniform for home service wear, the Service Dress<\/a>, after experience with lighter khaki drill in India and South Africa. The traditional scarlet, blue and green uniforms were however retained for full dress and off duty “walking out dress” wear. Details of these colourful uniforms varied greatly between regiments and branches of the army.[4]<\/a><\/sup> The early use of camouflage in the form of plain khaki reflected the exigencies of colonial war<\/a> and the freedom allowed\u00a0and taken, by many of the officers who fought it.         Who came up with camouflage?<\/h2>\n

        The French painter Lucien<\/b>–Victor Guirand<\/b> de Sc\u00e9vola,<\/p>\n

        In September 1914, De Sc\u00e9vola, serving as a second-class gunner, experimentally camouflaged<\/a> a gun emplacement with a painted canvas screen. On 12 February 1915 General Joffre<\/a> established the “Section de Camouflage” (English: Camouflage department) at Amiens<\/a>.[8] <\/sup>By May 1915 the Section de Camouflage put up its first observation tree, an iron lookout post camouflaged with bark and other materials during the Battle of Artois<\/a>.[9] <\/sup>[10] <\/sup>By the end of 1915, De Sc\u00e9vola became commander of the French Camouflage Corps, employing cubist<\/a>artists such as Andr\u00e9 Mare<\/a>, a specialist in camouflaging lookout posts.[3] <\/sup>By 1917, De Sc\u00e9vola’s team had grown to 3000, taking in artists including Jacques Villon<\/a>, Andr\u00e9 Dunoyer de Segonzac<\/a>, Charles Camoin<\/a> and Charles Dufresne.[11] (Text source http:\/\/www.revolvy.com\/main\/index.php?s=Lucien-Victor%20Guirand%20de%20Sc%C3%A9vola)<\/sup><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

        During WWI and WWII many nations developed their own ideas on how best to camouflage their troops and equipment.<\/p>\n

        And my FAVORITE type of camo ‘Razzle Dazzle”<\/p>\n

        Dazzle camouflage<\/b>, also known as razzle dazzle<\/b> (US) or dazzle painting<\/b>, was a family of ship camouflage<\/a> used extensively in World War I<\/a>, and to a lesser extent in World War II<\/a> and afterwards. Credited to the British marine artist<\/a>Norman Wilkinson<\/a>, though with a rejected prior claim by the zoologist<\/a>John Graham Kerr<\/a>, it consisted of complex patterns of geometric shapes in contrasting colours, interrupting and intersecting each other.<\/p>\n

        Unlike other forms of camouflage<\/a>, the intention of dazzle is not to conceal<\/a> but to make it difficult to estimate a target’s range, speed, and heading. Norman Wilkinson explained in 1919 that he had intended dazzle more to mislead the enemy about a ship’s course and so to take up a poor firing position, than actually to cause the enemy to miss his shot when firing.[a]<\/a>\u00a0(text source https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dazzle_camouflage)<\/sup><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

        By the WWII the camouflage the Art of Camouflage had become very complex. \u00a0Every different\u00a0terrain\u00a0and season would dictate a different colour scheme and pattern.<\/div>\n

        In this project, I would like to use our Hand as well as our brains and the computer. With your understanding of the history and development of Camouflage, I want you to think of developing a Camoflague or Skin for one of your small household appliances. \u00a0Toaster, Coffee grinder, fridge etc. \u00a0Use your artistic whimsy to think through this task and see what intellectual direction you want to take. \u00a0Are you going to be serious and try to hide the object, or brashly using your skin to make the object immediately visible to all who encounter\u00a0it.<\/p>\n
