Line drawings are great, don’t get me wrong. \u00a0But something magical starts to happen when an artists start to add to and value to a drawing. \u00a0The realism some artists can achieve\u00a0with a pencil and paper is truly\u00a0amazing.<\/p>\n

To achieve all these drawings the alerts\u00a0rely\u00a0heavily\u00a0on Value.<\/p>\n

Value, otherwise known as Tone, is how light or darkness of a colour. \u00a0Below is a 10 tone value chart.<\/p>\n

(And, yes, you can do this for a Colour or a Hue)<\/p>\n

You can get many different textures with a pencil. \u00a0What do you notice about the textures and tones in these drawing by\u00a0Georges Seurat?<\/p>\n

Learning how to use value and texture in your drawing will allow you to produce drawings\u00a0with depth as well as different\u00a0emotional scenes as well. \u00a0 Not all artist want to make drawings that are realistic, in fact- we have cameras for that.<\/p>\n

It all depends on where the light is coming from and how strong the light is. \u00a0Notice the ball below.<\/p>\n
