{"id":12641,"date":"2016-04-04T18:15:59","date_gmt":"2016-04-04T18:15:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/dkeller\/?page_id=12641"},"modified":"2016-09-23T02:48:14","modified_gmt":"2016-09-23T02:48:14","slug":"assignment-8-digging-deeper-photo-evaluations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/dkeller\/assignment-8-digging-deeper-photo-evaluations\/","title":{"rendered":"Assignment #8 &#8216;Digging Deeper Photo Evaluations&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>This term I would like you to start the process of understanding, and evaluating, several photographic images.\u00a0 To do this, I would like you to precede through the following steps, making notes, sketches along the way.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>*Please note that I\u2019m looking for you to make a personal response based on your own experience, prior knowledge, and\/or research.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Connecting: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>The purpose of making a connection to the photo is to enhance our understanding of the photographer\u2019s intent.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Use your own knowledge and experience\u2019s to find meaning.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>&#8220;Deep thinking connections help you understand the Photo better.\u00a0 Quick connections don&#8217;t&#8221; <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Questioning: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>&#8220;A deep-thinking question helps you to think deeper\u00a0about the\u00a0text.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The Photo looks like it\u2019s about \u00a0\u00a0But now I\u2019m wondering if it\u2019s actually about _________________.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Visualizing: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>&#8220;Visualizing is like seeing a movie in your mind while you read&#8221; In this case \u2018reading\u2019 the photo.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Look at the photo for a while. Now close your eyes- what happened before? What happens after?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Inferring: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Most Photographers don\u2019t tell you EVERYTHING about what their intent was for work- they want YOU to figure it out for yourself<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Don\u2019t just think about what IS in the photo, thinking about what ISN&#8217;T.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Inferring is filling in, in your head what is not written under, or beside, the photo<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>When you infer, you need to act like a detective.\u00a0 Look for the clues the photographer left in the image and use them to figure out what they didn&#8217;t tell you<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Transforming: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>&#8220;Transforming is when your thinking gets <strong>re-arranged<\/strong> and <strong>re-organized<\/strong> because of something you read.
