The importance of knowing how as opposed to knowing what is one that is growing ever more important.\u00a0 Woodworking teaches Design, Process, Attention to Detail, Pride in Ones Work, Patience and Problem Solving! As we become ever more detached from the real world and buried into screens, vr, online gaming,\u00a0 and all the other conveniences afforded by carrying around the bulk of\u00a0 popular knowledge in our pockets, accessible with the touch of a screen.<\/p>\n

The importance of doing and making are becoming more and more important. which is why I think shop classes are so important!\u00a0A quality woodworking program provides experiences far more important than those typically associated with woodshop. Courses, like woodworking, where students use their hands build confidence, strength of character, and problem solving capabilities useful in all careers and in every educational experience.<\/p>\n

Below is a list I found that really addresses the benefits that can be found in shop classes! \u00a0 None more important than the first one, and the last one!<\/p>\n

21 reasons to take Woodshop<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. It is a class that students ENJOY!<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Assists students in communicating and\u00a0 understanding ideas non-verbally, through sketches and technical drawings. <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Enhances the skills of spatial visualization\u00a0 required for geometry, trigonometry and algebra, thereby helping students to prepare for careers\u00a0 in engineering, architecture and science.\u00a0Provides students with take-home, physical\u00a0\u00a0 evidence of their mastery of skills. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. Instills pride of accomplishment and\u00a0\u00a0 self-esteem.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  5. Gives the student the opportunity to execute\u00a0 precise work and to produce useful products, and become \u201cself-assessors\u201d using measuring tools, squares, etc. and then the fit of things to self-assess the quality of their work. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  6. Trains the eye and hand to see accurately and\u00a0\u00a0 to feel the sense of beauty in form.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  7. Inculcates the habits of attention, perseverance\u00a0\u00a0 and patience.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  8. Offers opportunities for students to go where\u00a0 their hearts demand by selecting designs and projects that motivate them not only as a woodworker but also as a student.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  9. Provides opportunities for students to overcome\u00a0 setbacks that occur when working on real objects.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  10. Provides relevancy of other subject matter to\u00a0 their lives, thereby preparing them for a lifetime of learning. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  11. Provides non-academic areas for demonstration\u00a0\u00a0 of skills and pursuit of excellence. <\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
