Brian Mulroney: A Conservative leader (years as Prime Minister 1984-1993. his approach to leading Canada was completely the opposite of Trudeau’s. he worked to forge a closer relation ship with U.S President Ronald Reagan who he shared a similar conservative philosophy with. at this time Canada belonged to the North american Aerospace Defense Command(NORAD) over the years Mulroney tightened other links with the united states, Mulroney announced Canada was open for “business” and replaced Foreign Investment Review Agency (FIRA) with Free Trade Agreement (FTA). in 1992 the Mulroney government expanded the trade zone by signing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which included trade with mexico

Jean Chretien’s:A Liberal (years as prime minister 1993-2003). priority was to expand Canada’S trading opportunities with other countries enthusiastic on “team Canada ” trade missions to Asia and Latin America to secure deals for Canadian investment and exports agreement with Chile and Israel which pretty much led to globalization by the end of the 20th century and was a result to rapid changes in communications , technology and the fall of communism. goods could be easily shipped around the word. however countries were hit with economic hardship and Canadian economy suffered especially in BC. many big multinational corporations relocated to parts of the world like Latin America, where labor cots are low and there are few environmental regulations. Trudeau: He aimed to bridge the gaps between the economically rich North countries with the developing South countries. To achieve this idea he set up a new government body known as the Canadian International Development Agency. This program allowed countries in need to receive the aid needed, but in return, they had to agree to use the aid to buy products manufactured in Canada. He also wanted to bring the capitalist west and the communist east together in trade and in agreement. He also believed in a foreign policy that was less dependent on the United Staes.

Mulroney: Mulroney had a different opinion than Trudeau, about foreign policy with the United States. He worked to link Canada and United States closer again. He soon later dismantled FIRA and replaced it with Investment Canada. He brought Canada into a Free Trade Agreement(FTA) with the United States. This free trade agreement was not the last he signed. He signed the North American Free Trade Agreement(NAFTA) which included free trade with Mexico.

Chrétien: Chrétien had a similar point of view toward foreign trade as Trudeau. He wanted to expand Canada’s trading opportunities with other countries. He organized “Team Canada” trade mission to Asia and Latin America to secure new trading partner and economic allies. This close relationship between the two leaders had worried many Canadians because U.S. companies controlled much of the Canadian economy. Mulroney had also dismantled FIRA and instead replaced it with investment, Canada a government body that would supposedly encourage foreign investment. Later in 1987 he led Canada into the Free trade agreement with the united states. Mulroney later down the line had also signed the North American Free Trade Agreement which included free trade with Mexico
