Forensics 11 – Careers in Forensics – Ms. N. Smith

There are some excellent places to look for information on certain careers in Forensics. A good place to start is MyBlueprint.

MyBlueprint: Once logged in, look on the left sidebar and click on “Work”. Then enter one of the careers as given in the handout. Suggestions will come up, as well as other careers that you may be interested in.

Career Cruising from the Vancouver Public Library: Anyone who has a VPL card has access to many online resources. To access these resources, click on Digital Library, then Online Resources, then in the Name box type Career Cruising. You will need a valid VPL card to access this. Please do not use a friend’s card; if you don’t have a card all you need to do is go to any branch of the VPL with your Gladstone Student Card and you will be able to get one. Once in Career Cruising, use the search bar to search for the career you are researching. ***Cite MyBlueprint and Career Cruising as original content from a database: Where? Database What? Original content from a database.

Databases on the VSB Digital Library: Click on VSB Library Catalogue above. Then choose Gladstone and login in the top right hand corner. Science in Context is a wonderful database to use as it gives information about subjects from many different sources (books, magazines, newspapers, journals and more). It might be a good idea to select References once you get a list of sources.  ***Cite Science in Context as Where? Database. What? Reference, or news, or Magazine, etc. (whatever kind of source it is; if you aren’t sure please ask Ms. M).

Another source on the web that might be helpful is the Canadian Society of Forensic Science.  Click on What We Do at the top, then on Disciplines on the left sidebar. There is more information under the tab Student Zone, then What is Forensic Science? ***Cite this source as a webpage from a website (Where? website, What? webpage)
