English 10 and 12 First Peoples Contemporary Issues Assignment – Ms. Burdon

Here are some resources that you can use to help with your research for this assignment. You are not limited to these resources, however its a good idea to start here (before you go to Google!). First, click on VSB Library Catalogue in the menu. Log in, then click on HOME. There you will find many truthworthy sources. Here are some that will be helpful:

1. Subscription databases (red circles): Canada in Context (password at home is library). The information you find is from a database (the WHERE in Noodletools). The WHAT in Noodletools is whatever you found; is it an article from a newspaper, a magazine, a journal? Or a reference source such as an encyclopedia? Make sure you look at the WHAT; if you are not sure please see Ms. M.

2. Other digital resources on the HOME tab: The Canadian Encyclopedia and The Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada (no passwords needed either at school or at home). These resources are reference sources from a website (in Noodletools the WHERE is a website, and the WHAT is a reference source). Reference sources include encyclopedias, atlases and dictionaries.

Also, click on Catalogue (in the VSB Library Catalogue), to see if we have some print resources in the Library (most likely that we do!).

Sources from the web:

Government of Canada: Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada  and Indigenous Services Canada These can be cited as webpages from a website. The WHERE in Noodletools is a website; the WHAT is a webpage.

When you do go to Google to search, look for news articles from reputable, trustworthy news sources such as CBC, Global News, Macleans,  The Globe and Mail and APTN. Please do not use Wikipedia for your research. Many of the people on the list will have an official webpage. News sources from the web are cited as webpages from websites (the WHERE is a website; the WHAT is a webpage).

You will be using Noodletools to create your Works Cited.  Click on the Works Cited tab on the menu above. If you need your password reset, please see Ms. Montroy. Make sure you “Share” your Noodletools Project with Ms. Montroy (FP Eng 10 Ms. Burdon)

If you do not have an account in Noodletools, go up to the menu at the top of the screen and click on Works Cited. There is also information posted in the Library Learning Commons.
