Life Sciences 11 – MLFSC11

Life Sciences 11 is strongly recommended for
students considering post-secondary Biology courses. This course addresses a representative sample of organisms and introduces students to a variety of biological skills and scientific processes. Students should be fluent in English as this course is vocabulary intensive.

Areas of study include:
• Adaptation and evolution
• Microbiology
• Plant biology
• Animal biology

Anatomy and Physiology 12 – MATPH12

The course focus is on cells and human body function with an underlying theme of homoeostasis and control mechanisms. Concepts will be applied to the treatment of various disorders and diseases. Learning
outcomes are directed at scientific attitudes and critical thinking abilities. Recommended prerequisite: Chemistry 11.

• Cell biology
• Cell processes and applications
• Human biology

AP Biology 12 – ABIO-12

This course is intended for students planning to enter Biological Sciences post-secondary. The course is designed to provide students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with this changing science. The content goes beyond the depth of Life Sciences 11 and Anatomy & Physiology 12 and includes topics of biochemistry, cells, cell energetics, heredity, gene expression, natural selection and ecology.

Students will prepare to write the Advanced Placement Biology Examination. Chemistry 11 is a recommended
prerequisite course.
